Walking your dog at Stour Valley

Guidance on bringing your dogs to Kingfisher Barn

Dogs are welcome to the site but must be under control – see the Dorset Dogs Doggy Do Code. Along the river there are several dog priority beaches and we allow well behaved dogs into the wildlife garden (on leads) but only assist dogs in the Visitor Centre. Please take a look at our formal policies here.

Only registered assistance dogs can come into the Visitor Centre, but we do have lots of paw-fect shady spots to tether them outside whilst you have a quick peak.

Dorset Dogs

Becky King, our Seasonal Heathland Mitigation Ranger (Dorset Dogs in Bournemouth) is funded by Bournemouth Borough Council and will be working alongside Dorset Dogs to deliver doggy pit stops, guided walkies and general information on responsible dog ownership.

Dorset dogs is an organisation that champions positive management for people with dogs in town, coast & countryside and promotes responsible dog ownership.  Dog ownership can have amazing benefits for people's physical health and emotional well-being and for the value, care and future protection given to our countryside and green spaces and the wildlife that lives there.

She will be based at our Visitor Centre Kingfisher Barn and work across nature reserves and parks throughout the borough. If you’re down at Stour Valley Nature Reserve, why don’t you pop into Kingfisher Barn and say hello, or contact Becky if you need any help or guidance on bringing your dog to Stour Valley.
